El Barranco De Luz
El Barranco De Luz
You’ll reach the house after a 20-minute drive from Lanjaròn, the nearest village. The final 7 kilometers follow a mountain track — partly paved, partly unpaved — which can be bumpy and dusty. The journey up is part of the experience and contributes to the quiet, untouched character of this part of Alpujarras.
Although you are only about 50 kilometers from the Mediterranean coast and the city of Granada, once you arrive, you’ll feel far removed from everyday noise and activity.
The retreat takes place in a renovated mountain farmhouse at approximately 1,000 meters altitude in the Sierra Nevada. The house is off-grid, powered by solar energy, with water supplied through a traditional irrigation channel (acequia) that has shaped this landscape for centuries. Heating is provided by wood-burning stoves, adding to the simplicity and authenticity of the setting. The Moorish inspired design blends organically with the surrounding land and provides a sense of coziness and safety. A courtyard, roof deck and little nooks and corners offer a space for relaxation, comfort and contemplation.
The surrounding land is open and spacious, offering room to walk, practice yoga, meditate, swim, or simply rest and take in the landscape.
